Zombies, Ducks and HMRC rules – the 2014 Miracle Customer Conference had it all!


On 6th and 7th November, Miracle Dynamics hosted their annual Customer Conference at Heythrop House in Oxfordshire – and what a great event it was!  We arrived on a fairly damp Thursday afternoon, to be greeted by the (soon to be named) inflatable duck – which told us we were definitely in the right place!

This year’s theme was the Swinging Sixties. Many guests took this theme to their hearts, from 1966 footie kit to full Austin Powers regalia, it was quite a spectacle.  After a few pre-dinner drinks and a spot of light networking, we enjoyed a fine dinner followed by a live performance from 60s band The Zombies!  Miracle’s CEO, Alan Frost, is personal friends with the band, and a die hard fan. They warmed the crowd up well for the 1960s disco that followed. The enjoyment went on until the wee small hours when we trundled off to bed to avoid being too fuzzy for the conference the following day.

As ever, the conference was extremely well organised, the “Rescue Kit” at every place setting was a bonus – especially the chocolate!  The lilting tones of Val Boyers gently brought us to life as we gathered for the morning’s events.  Each of Val’s songs had a “Miracle” theme to it, and it was a lovely way to start the day.

After Alan Frost’s welcome speech, we enjoyed presentations from Phil Nilson of HMRC and Ken Tymms from the Pensions Regulator.

Phil Nilson’s presentation style is unique – and very funny. He has the enviable ability to make a very dry subject extremely entertaining. Phil covered a myriad of topics including RTI late filing penalties, the new digital PAYE service, NICs for employees under 21 years old and understanding tax codes. Ken Tymms from the Pensions Regulator had a hard act to follow, but made a valiant effort! Much of Ken’s presentation emphasised just how essential it is for businesses to have up to date payroll and business management software. He presented some very interesting case studies which highlighted this. Valuable information can be found on The Pensions Regulator website, but the moral of the story is simple – test your software thoroughly before it is implemented – and, remember, we can help you with this!

Andy Mitchell from Miracle Dynamics took us towards lunchtime with an update on all things Miracle Support. With some impressive statistics and encouraging promises, it seems Miracle has really listened to its valued customers.

After an enjoyable lunch, we split out into breakout streams. These were many and varied, and our very own Julia Wells prepared an enlightening MiracleTime case study to complement Alison Ward’s MiracleTime update. Unfortunately, the session was pitched against the MiraclePay and Pension update so wasn’t as well attended as we’d hoped!  However, Julia is always available to provide help and advice as required, just drop her an email.

After a full afternoon of updates, came the closing speech from Alan Frost. With a “Thank You” to all who attended and contributed, and a promise of more of the same next year we bid farewell to the Miracle Customer Conference for another year. It is a great event and we can highly recommend it!
